I've just returned from a trip to New York and have lots of street art inspiration to share with you! Top of my to do list was returning to The Bushwick Collective after last visiting it two years ago. For those that don't The Bushwick Collective is an outdoor street gallery in Bushwick, Brooklyn - you will find it at the Jefferson Stop on the L train.
The Collective was founded by Joe Ficalora in May 2012 and is a few blocks of buildings covered in street art. Not just anyone can turn up and paint though, you have to either be invited or selected to create a mural. The artists chosen to paint for the Collective come from all over the world and all have different methods and styles of painting. Being a gallery the art is constantly changing and it is up to Joe to decide when it's time for a mural to be painted over with something new.
Unfortunately I just missed out on being there for their annual Bushwick Collective Block Party where there were over 50 artists painting new murals plus an exhibition, live music, food trucks and markets. I actually think quite a lot of the murals I've taken photos of have most likely been painted over by now. That's the fun of the outdoor gallery though!
Enjoy...
*Please note I have tried to credit the artist wherever possible. If you know who is resposible for any of the art that isn't credited please let me know and I will update the post!
